My condo, built in the 60’s has a Taco brand old coil thermostat that barely works. I want to replace it with a digital, programmable one like a Honeywell or Lux brand. Can I just buy one and replace it or is there something that I need to know about? Is there a certain criteria I need to follow or types to avoid? Thanks!!!
PS: My condo has gas heat and it is paid for in my condo fees.

Yes, you can! What matters is the wires, not the type of thermostat.
An important tip:
When you take your old thermostat off, take a picture of how the wires are connected. That will help tell you which wire is which when you are installing your new thermostat. Also if you can’t get the new thermostat to work for some reason you will know how to re-attach the old one.
Just follow the instructions that come with the new thermostat. They are not very difficult to replace, probably just two low voltage wires from what you’re describing.
It will work fine.Honeywell makes a great thermostat.
