What Are The Pros/cons Of Purchasing Software From Ebay?

I have heard several people talking about the great deals they have gotten purchasing software from ebay. I was just wondering what the security risks would be when doing this? Is there any way to know for sure that it is legal legitimate software and not bugged with worms and spyware, if the seller claims it it new, never opened/or installed?
