What Is The Best Music Composing Software?

I am looking to write my own music but I would like a program that I can write the music and play it to hear a preview. I am looking for something that is free or in the range of $0 – $50.
PS: I am looking to write hard rock / metal so any program that has the ability to create guitar tabs as well as regular notes.

GarageBand. A little more then $50, though.
Sibelius 5, very very expensive but excellent.
it takes some getting used to, but it allows you to write tabs and notes on the same page and play them back together.
pay the £500?
