My sister has 8 baby gerbils who are just turned a week old today. I am planning on getting one or two from her, how old do they have to be in order for them to leave? Thanks!!

firstly, to answer your question, 3 weeks is the earliest.
secondly gerbils need a buddy. like NEED one. contrary to common sense, boy-boy cage buddies work better than girl-girl, as gerbils are martiarchel (girls are the rulers, not the guys, and i probably spelt that wrong..)

You are going to want to wait until they are at least 5 weeks.
Also, gerbils prefer buddies, so if you could grab two you would have much happier gerbils.
5 weeks would be the earliest. they feed off their mother until hey are 3-4 weeks. then they are seperate into single sex groups. most get sold at 7-10 weeks though
at least 3-4 weeks old. at least a month. and even thats still pretty young because their life span is about 3-5 yrs. some live a little longer, but not usually
