the only thing i really ever need is a usb pen/flash drive 32gb
its bootable with hirens, and has XP, Vista and Windows 7 i386 directories
(the hirens tools include everything from backup, repair etc)

me personally I take my tools http://seanchiarot.deviantart.com/art/Ma… (I do have more, but this is my small tool box heh, it usually does the job for the ‘home user’
I usually just carry a USB key and a CD with a live distro of linux (SLAX), I don’t carry any software for one main reason, software will always be out of date, so before you go and service a computer you have to make sure you have the latest version, ontop of that you also have to make sure you have the correct ‘version’, for example does the client have a 64bit or 32bit os? is it windows 7 vista? xp?
I’d limit yourself to a live distro of linux and your good to go, because you can always download software ‘on location’ :)

  3. Hiren’s Boot CD should be more than sufficient.
and put Dr Web Cureit on a USB stick to flush out all viruses. This anti virus does not need to be installed on the C Drive to work. Just click its spider icon to open and it starts scanning instantly.
