Is A Teacher Allowed To Collect Or Work After He Has Been Absent For A Week Straight?

He left no lesson plan, didn’t tell the school, and is a moron. I believe that he is letting his professional drumming career get in the way of his already horrible teaching.

That is up to the school, not you. If they believe he was ill, they will bring him back. If he took off for another job without notice, then the school may not take him back if they have other options (if they can’t find anyone to replace him, they may be more careful).
I just re-read your question, and I think I may have misunderstood based upon a typo. When you asked, “Can he collect or work?” I assumed you meant collect his paycheck or return to his job. That’s why I said it wasn’t up to you, but to the school. Now I’m thinking that you meant, “Collect OUR work”. In that case, as long as he gave you the assignment before he left (or if there was a pattern of certain things being due regularly), the answer is yes he can. His absence doesn’t nullify your responsibility.

The district would be able to take action if he didn’t call in. That would also include the possibility of termination of employment.
Being absent without calling in can be, and has been in the private sector, interpreted as the equavalent of quitting.
