I recommend using the Google keyword tool, to check the approximate values for keywords:https://adwords.google.com/select/Keywor…
enter your keyword, fill out the captcha, and then select show average cpc. in the dropdown box. This will show you how much an advertiser has to pay “per click” on the keyword that you searched for. Of course, you will not get this full amount (google takes their cut) but it will give you an average idea on how much a click is worth. an example, “insurance” is alot more expensive to advertise than “twitter backgrounds”

Well there are number of factors that determine how much you are paid out ofr each click, So yes you only get payed when people click your ads. But it depends on your content, and how high you rank to determine how much you will get. So if you have good content, and you rank high you will get more per click. Lets say $500 at 3%, I average .23 cents a click, So I would need, 80,000 vistors with 3% CTR at 23 cents a click, would be $552, So if you can get 80,000 vistors a week, you have no problem.

Earning on Adsense depends on how many impressions are being served and how many clicks there are. Note: not all ads have the same value when clicked on as these advertisers are competing for this ad space based on keywords.
It’s hard to say as the value of each ad varies.
