The best I can do is give you a qualified “maybe”. It depends on how the software is programmed.
Commercial software represents the majority of software purchased from software publishers, commercial computer stores, online, etc. When you buy software, you are actually acquiring a license to use it, not own it. You acquire the license from the company that owns the copyright. The conditions and restrictions of the license agreement vary from program to program. In general, commercial software licenses stipulate that (1) the software is covered by copyright, (2) although one archival copy of the software can be made, the backup copy cannot be used except when the original package fails or is destroyed, (3) modifications to the software are not allowed, (4) decompiling (i.e. reverse engineering) of the program code is not allowed without the permission of the copyright holder, and (5) development of new works built upon the package (derivative works) is not allowed without the permission of the copyright holder.
Did you have to get a registration or activation number BEFORE you could download the program? If yes, do you still have that number? If yes, you could try downloading the program again. You should get a little window that asks do you want to run it or save it. Select save it and another window should open asking where do you want to save it. You could select CD/DVD (usually D: drive) and follow the prompts.
But if you downloaded the software first and then received a registration or activation number, it won’t do any good to download a copy since you can’t use it without another registration or activation number. I’d really push customer service for an answer. Tell them you want to make your archival copy and you need specific info how to save it to CD.
Sorry for not being more help. But that what you get when an old Air Force vet answers! :-)
