Do you think any sort of actions ought to be taken? Don’t grant them automatic citizenship but allow them to apply for citizenship at a high fee? Don’t grant them citizenships at all? Don’t do anything? I understand that most of their parents simply want a better life for everybody; however, does it seem fair to you that they’re trying to exploit a system that they have not yet paid into?

Automatic deportation of their mothers.
screw them all let them pay taxes instead of living here illegally and sucking our country dry then maybe they can think about applying for citizenship
The anchor baby law needs to be abolished. we Don’t have enough jobs for Americans, why are we allowing thousands more people to move into the country by sneaking in to deliver their kids here?
simple really. if neither parent is a citizen…then the baby should not be automatically granted citizenship either..problem solved
We’ve exploited Mexico for decades. We’re only reaping what we sowed.
And most of the illegals who come here work harder than you or me.
Something needs to be done, what it breaks down to is Women are using their children as a way to escape punishment to get around national law.
Do you really think, our founding fathers knowing allowed this loop hole to to be permitted ?
I personally don’t think so, in fact I feel it is our duty to close this gap in our constitution .
If they have intentions of their child going to school using our civil services and getting medical assistance they need to pay taxes but it doesn’t make them a citizen.I think citizen privileges and taxes are two different things. Citizenship is voting and owning weapons and running in politics and so forth. Where as owning a business, basic hospital care ,schooling and police ,fire department services is all tax based. If you want to live here you have to pay taxes if you want to support what the country stands for you need to become a citizen.
Bottom line you want to give birth here you have to at least pay the tax man.
Everyone in the world wants a better life but becoming a citizen of another country is not always the best answer. There must be some limitations set on immigration because it is making the USA unsafe for people already living here. Nations that are at war and in direct conflict with this country need to be cut off from immigration and it should be denied to those who express terrorist threats and open animosity toward the USA and its territories. 911 happened because we ignored those eventualities. Everyone who benefits from any government system should be actively involved some way in supporting that system, politically and financially. There should be no automatic citizenship unless both parents of the child are citizens of the USA who are on military active duty abroad.
Birth right citizenship is a misinterpretation of the 14th amendment which was enacted to give freed slaves citizenship. The only children that should receive it now are the children of the people who have legally petition for citizenship, and are in good standing with our laws.
Hi!
I’m an anchor baby….
My parents went back to their home country basically because my father couldn’t get it together and my mom decided to follow him. I grew up in their home country and only came back as an adult.
Many “anchor babies” are sent “home” with relatives while their parents stay in the USA working. My sister (foreign born) and I (born an US citizen) were sent when I was three months old.
A great number of Puerto Ricans (US citizens) and other legally living in the USA are actually exploiting the system. It is ignorant blaming “anchor babies” for the bad economy whereas many able to work single moms (living with their “boyfriends”) play the system in order to stay at home.
There is nothing wrong with staying home taking care of your child but I speak from experience as I decided not lying in order to grant me child care vouchers and with a very low income could still stay at home for a while, attended school, got me a job and have been working ever since. We didn’t get food stamps. Lost WIC upon my children turned five and then could never qualify for even reduced lunch.
My children never spent a day hungry or lacking shelter. This was without housing or welfare taking care of us (I am legally married) I simply decided to live witin our means and working part time to have a little bit of everything I wanted. Of course I only had two children as my blessing was having a boy and a girl and I don’t plan on having more children than I can support.
PS. Come on! If I could get and keep a job even though there is a language barrier, what makes those growing up here less capable than me? They have the help they “need” in order to get back on their feet. Why have they been unable to get out of the system year after year? I hope there is a minority in that category but I am afraid that doesn’t apply to the reality.
I feel the same way about anchor babies, border babies and jackpot babies as I do about bastard children.
“The terms “anchor baby” and “jackpot baby” are used pejoratively in the United States to refer to the children of undocumented immigrants. Since all people born in the United States are automatically offered citizenship, except for the children of diplomats, some people fear that anchor babies are used to ensure citizenship for their parents and family members. Despite the fact that this is not, in fact, the case, the term is often thrown around at anti-immigration rallies, as part of a larger anti-immigration rhetoric.”http://www.wisegeek.com/what-does-the-te…
“Anchor baby” (in part)
“Anchor baby or jackpot baby are terms used to refer to a child born in the United States to illegal immigrants or other non-citizens. The terms refer to the role of an illegal alien’s child, as a US citizen, in facilitating chain migration under the provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. These terms have been characterized in various sources as “pejorative”[1][2] or “derogatory”.[3]“http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.co…

I caught my girlfriend flushing her pill and poking holes in all the condoms… I think she wants an anchor baby.”http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.ph…

While some of the answers sees a baby that needs a label I see nothing more than a baby. It does not matter to me if s/he has one eye, six fingers or two heads, it does not matter that s/he did not speak until they were almost seven years old what matters is I know that by calling a child something that degrades them even if they do not know the meaning of the word it has in the end a negative effect on that child.
How many times do you hear unmarried parents or the women impregnated by an unnamed father allowing others to call their child what they are, bastard children? http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&clien…
anchor babies and border babies are affecting our kids education. schools are overcrowded and because some kids can’t speak english they’ve taken away some of our kids electives for esl classes. they’re causing our kids lack of education because classes have more students than they once had and they have at times the have to give them more attention (need better understanding).
