I have had and got friends and family belonging to these religions, but I can’t seem to find much difference, are they just the same wine but in different bottles, or is there greater differences??
Thank you very much in advance for any replies.

There is a LOT of difference. First of all, a born again Christian can be a lot of different Christian religions. I’m pretty sure all fundies, no matter the religion, see themselves as born again Christians. Methodists and Baptists are far more mainstream than Pentecostals and there’s a reason for that. Pentecostal beliefs go to the extreme. To tell a lie is the same as murder to them. The slightest sin, no matter how insignificant, will keep you out of Heaven if you die before you truly repent. They literally teach, “What if you’re hit by a car? You could die at any second!” to keep kids from masturbating. I’m not nearly as familiar with the other two.
Baptists and Pentecostals both believe Bible mostly. They are born again, baptised when they are in the age to believe, not as a child. pentecostals believe in filling of Holy spirit, baptists not. Methodists, i think, worship like catholics. reading books by priests etc..Baptists and pentecostals no priests but pastors and elders. i know this much only. i have seen the first 2 groups giving importance for prayers. and praying for others too.
Firstly, a Christian is a person who has been born of God.
God has made them a new person and has changed their life.
It is all from God and the person will always be thankful to God for this miracle which has occurred in their life.
Now, depending on the person’s convictions,
whether they believe that they had something to do with their own salvation
or whether they think that God did all the work in saving them,
or if they like dancing and singing in their mode of worship to God,
Or if they like the Traditional mode of worship, e.g. singing hymns and Psalms,
will determine where they go to worship Him.
But if a person has truly been Born Again by God and they haven’t made themselves that way, then they are all the same in God’s Eyes.
They will go to Heaven when they die and they have had all their sins forgiven and God is their Heavenly Father.
They also know the love and peace of God in their heart and they love to share this message with others.
If you want my true answer it will probably be upsetting to some. However, I have sought this answer after much experience. I have been to many churches, many different times. (Please take this as my own perspective)
Methodists – simply put they believe in a Method. The service follows just that. Like the Baptist similar counterpart they also believe that you can sin more or less every day and go to heaven.
Baptists – have several different branches (Primitive, Southern, etc), but the beliefs are all necessarily the same. Just pray at the alter and get your sins forgiven and then you are free to go do whatever you please again. The biggest belief is “Once saved always saved”
Pentecostals – Believe in speaking in tongues and receiving the Holy Ghost. However, they believe that you can lose salvation and regain it.
Free Holiness – Not to be confused with Pentecostal or Church of God. Believe that you speak in tongues and receive the Holy Ghost. However, you can never sin again after you receive the Holy Ghost or you lose your salvation for good.
I am personally Free Holiness. Read Hebrews 10:29 for more information. There is more references to this in the bible, but this is a good point.
A born-again Christian is a person who has been anointed by the Holy Spirit. This experience is not restricted to any one Christian denomination – it is common to every single Christian who has come to accept Christ Jesus as Lord and Saviour, who has repented and been baptised, and whose life has been changed as a result.
There is hardly any difference between Baptists and Methodists – infant baptism being the obvious exception. They might disagree on points of theology like Calvinism vs Arminianism, but nothing worth falling out over. I became a Christian 13 years ago and was fully immersed in a U.K. Baptist church, but now I attend a Methodist church (because I’m now living in Wesley territory whereas previously I lived in Bunyan territory). I’ve studied the Methodist history and discussed points of theology and am satisfied we’re all singing from the same hymn sheet.
Pentecostals are an unknown quantity to me, apart from knowing they believe in gifts of the Holy Spirit still being poured out today (speaking in tongues, gifts of healing and prophecy, etc).
Whatever denomination, if your friends and family display the fruits of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, etc) and are pointing people to Christ Jesus as the only hope for humanity, then you can be fairly certain they are all Born Again Christians.
Edit: Baptists DO NOT claim that once you’re saved you’re always saved. They do not uphold hyper-Calvinism. Neither do Baptists or Methodists say you can sin as much as you like, repent or confess and still go to heaven. That is an absolute misrepresentation of their Christian faith and Bible-based principles. I am shocked that people can spout such rubbish!
P.S. Thumbs’ up to Only by Grace for her web links and for stating the truth! If you are unable to access the Got Questions page, just go to: http://www.gotquestions.org and then key in ‘born again’ to search for information.
Further Edit: If a person is not born-again by the Holy Spirit, then they cannot claim to be a Christian. There is no such thing as having ‘a bit’ of the holy spirit, as some religious denominations claim. You are either born-again and fully anointed by the Holy Spirit and therefore saved (your sins have been forgiven) or you’re not. And once the Holy Spirit begins the work of regeneration in a believer, that person’s life will never be the same again! It is the Holy Spirit that opens eyes, unstops ears and softens hearts so people can receive the true gospel.
Methodists – The Methodist Church claims and cherishes its place in the Holy Catholic Church which is the Body of Christ. It rejoices in the inheritance of the apostolic faith and loyally accepts the fundamental principles of the historic creeds and of the Protestant Reformation.’

In essence you cannot be a Christian unless you are born again. The bible is very clear at John 3v3 that unless a man is born again he cannot see the kingdom of heaven. The above links will help you see the differences of each particular belief group – I am reluctant to call them religions, because I do not believe God is into religion, he is into RELATIONSHIP. When you are born again, you enter into a personal relationship with Jesus.
People who are born again will usually attend a Methodist church or a pentecostal church or a baptist church or even a C of E church as more and more ministers in the C of E church are being born again, however some of the Co of E churches are more traditional churches and may not believe in baptism of the Holy Spirit and as you will no doubt be aware, the C of E church does, sadly, allow gay people into the ministry. Some born again believers may even attend Quaker meetings and others will just attend a local Christian church that is under the covering of an Apostle [ie a church that believes in the Eph4 ministry].
I might perhaps say though they are different wines in the same bottle though. Cos the ONLY way to salvation is through Jesus and being born again! There is only one way to the Father and that is through Jesus. Read Acts 13v38-39, read also 1 Cor 15v1-4. The bible is clear ‘Repent and be baptised’. To understand more about being born again attending an Alpha course would be a great start [in the UK] or by reading a book by Joyce Meyer called the Most important decision you will ever make.

Take your time to look through the various links and once you discover Jesus and fall in love with Him your life will never be the same!
Edit – by the way Isaiah and Hosea both tell us that there is only ONE Saviour and your Bible tells us that it is Jehovah…yet your Bible also tells us that Jesus is saviour also – however there can only be ONE Saviour and there IS only ONE saviour – there cannot be a Saviour without the shedding of blood as this is what is needed to remove sin and reconcile us – so for Jehovah to be Saviour as well as Jesus – they both have to be ONE as it was Jesus blood that was shed for our sins not Jehovah’s. John10v30 Jesus says ‘I and the Father are one’ x
I am hoping one of two things., that either you know your wines, or maybe the wedding at Cana where Jesus turned water into the best tasting wine they ever had.(or both) Either way, some wines are preferred over others, but wine none the less. (no Kool Aid, ok). For me, in this narrative, the wine is Jesus or the common denominator within the groups you mention. In Corinth , Paul wanted to make it clear we follow Christ, when some had certain preferences of who to listen to.
(As a note, consider the answers of GreyTower, only by Grace and Mavis as incorporated in full here)
On my personal life journey, I had the privilege of growing up “nothing”, and therefore did not have any allegiance to a particular group. It made it much easier for me at 19 to listen without bias. My ancestry is Baptist, but nothing I heard about growing up. Not until I joined the military, did I meet some friends who seemed to have a love for Jesus I had not seen before. Mind you, over the years since I accepted Christ, I have attended Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, Assemblies of God (pentecostal) and 3 Sundays at a Lutheran church, so I am aware of the many minor nuances.
I heard the term “Born Again” in a non denominational service. I was at that service because I was interested in a very cute Italian girl, not the church. My fellow soldier next to me said” I don’t need this born again stuff.” A light came on in my brain/spirit/heart, “I think I do”. Since the term Born Again was coined by Jesus, I realized then the church building was not “the church” but those who belong to Jesus who is the Christ (He did say He will build His church). I did not make a commitment for a few more months, after all why so many different churches?
The only thing I found exclusive was the teachings of Jesus. People being human, may prefer their church ….because that is how they were raised. Some are attracted to a group because of a camaraderie. Me, I spent the next 3 years in Vietnam with my Bible and some occasional visits to church in the Philippines, and in Japan. I did a lot of reading, and was intrigued by the conversion of Saul to Paul the apostle.. He went from killing or putting away these Jesus followers, to proclaiming the Gospel of Christ. He was one of the greatest and knowledgeable Pharisees at that time. Seems God knocked him off his horse, and got his attention .(Acts 9:1-22)
To answer your Q a bit more clearly, some within the denominations may squabble over peripheral issues, but on who Jesus said He is, why we are here, what He did for us, our choice to choose or ignore is pretty much what is the same between all.
What it finally boils down to for me, is not the label of a church, but do I belong to Christ? Do I accept Him for who He said He is? Am I born again of His Spirit? Can I know for sure I have Eternal Life ?(I John 5:13)
I soon discovered, after I left Viet Nam, there are many Jesus’ in the world by definition. He is defined from everything to being simply a good man, a prophet, a lunatic trying to get a following, an angel, simply a rabbi, and of course, some think He is the Incarnate Christ prophesied to come. Along the way I had to learn about circular reasoning, inductive and deductive reasoning, language meanings, and like CSI , follow the evidence to The Truth.
thanks for the Q
edit: oh, the Lutheran church I went to, ……the pastor there accepted Christ after 11 years in the pulpit. How interesting some can sit in pews, even be a pastor, and not know Christ personally. Like Paul, he got knocked off his horse…..and got connected , how cool is that !
