I have found sage to be perfect.
I have Line 50 fully Integrated with sage payroll and use excel to download the entire nominal ledger and produces my management accounts from live information at the touch of a button.
VAT return also at a touch of a button and so on.
Would not recommend another
Sage really is the market leader but since Microsoft have brought out their accounting package it is very likely that this will soon become top of the market. I think you can download as a trial to see if you like it and of course being Microsoft if you use Office, you will be more familiar with it.

Sage used to be Sky accounting software years ago and was very good. An alternative is Sun Accounts but it’s no better/worse.
