my comp doesnt have wifi, so i want to maybe buy a usb wifi antenna thing. do i need “wifi software” to connect me? something that tells me the wifi info etc?? does the usb wifi come with such software?

yes and you will need a router somewhere that connects to a line for the internet.. unless you buy WWAN which is slower than anything, requires a different type of antenna than 802.11, and works most places but costs a fortune to lease.
but in general, if you pay for high-speed internet, have a wireless router connected and configured, and install the drivers for the usb antenna, it should just work.
