Do I Need Special Software To Play Blu-rays On My Laptop?

I just bought a Dell Studio XPS 16 laptop, and it came with an HD screen and a DVD optical drive. I am thinking about replacing the optical drive with a blu-ray drive. Now is that all I have to do in order to play blu-rays, or do I also need to buy special software? I have heard of the Corel WinDVD 9 Plus (Blu-ray). Do I need software like this to play blu-rays?

The blue ray is unfortunantly the first step.
Microsoft has been playing hard to get when it come to blue ray technology and support. there is no windows based program, media center, media player, etc that will support blue ray. so this means you will need to download power dvd or somehting like it. I prefer power dvd because it has all the latest features for blue ray. but the good news is that you probably will get a free berison with your player. if you don’t it’s like $30 or somehting.
    Hope this helps

I doubt it, but since you just bought it, check with Dell. If you have a blu-ray player and an HD screen, that should be all you need.

Typically, your hardware will come with software. A quality product should at least give you a program to watch movies with in the event your usual media player doesn’t work with Blu-Ray.

u just need a blue ray player or a blue ray drive to install into your laptop. blue rays do not play with cd/dvd drives because they are two totally different technology.
