Why on earth would you torrent a free program.? Is stealing software so ingrained in your phyche, that you forget that there are excellent, free, malware-freeand LEGAL programs availible on the web.
For your anti-virus needs, I would strongly recommend Avira AntiVir® PersonalEdition Classic. It has excellent heuristics, a virus detection rate that is better than most “paid-for” anti-virus programs and is light on using your computer’s resources. Uses less then 10 MB RAM on my machine. And did I mention that it’s free for life! Works great on my Vista box, too.

BTW, Avoid the free version of an anti-virus called AVG, it has horrible virus detection capibilities.

NOD32 is the best non-free antivirus IMO.
The best legally free is AVG antivirus or Avira. All of these (free or not) are better than Norton.
If you want both free and best then it will be AVG.
well, if you torrent it, its gonna be free, give u viruses/spyware and other bad things and it will be illegal
