Is New Software Leading To More Incompetent Users?

Tell me of a program or software that leads one to becoming incompetent. For example, word processing software has spell check and grammer check. This leads the average person to let the program to think for them. In the long run it would be helpful if we looked up words we didn’t know how to spell. Please give examples of software like this. Software that doesn’t increase our general knowledge pool because it does the thinking for us.

  1. Software developers (programmers) use applications called IDEs (Integrated Development Environments) to help them program their own applications.
These applications do a lot of the hard work for the developer and are in danger of creating a generation of programmers/developers who don’t have a clue whats going on underneath their code.

You’re right! And so many people here ask so many dumb questions on this site about computers. I mean, they’re trying to make this thing the most user-friendly thing they can but people can’t understand how to use this machine. Seriously, people who don’t know what a CPU is doesn’t have the right to use a computer AT ALL!

Interesting question. I’m a technology nerd, so I always use “old school” apps that actually require me to know some detailed information to use them; I hate having my hand held by a computer. I honestly can’t think of any other than word processors. ^_^
