Can You Use Blackberry Desktop Software Without Having A Service Plan Of Some Sort?

The thing is, is that I didnt buy any like data plan or anything for the blackberry curve, and when i try to install the software in from the cd, it asks about the enterprise, and company stuff. so i was wondering is it possible to use the software with out any special plans.
