Find a camera store in Tulsa. Not a department store, but one that sells cameras and does very little else. They will have the schedules of Nikon classes. Also sometimes their Nikon representative will give mini-seminars on your particular camera.
I have the original D70, and I took one of those classes. I really learned a lot about what my camera can do! But the first thing I recommend is to take your camera manual and go through it, page by page, trying out everything. I did that, and got a good start. Don’t worry about your first pictures. Take and delete, take and delete, take and delete. It helps you learn. Of course, save any you like.
For software, Photoshop is always a good one, and Nikon Capture is also good. They teach Nikon Capture at the Nikon classes, by the way.
