What Is The Best Hebrew Language Learning Software?

I don’t know any Hebrew so just a beginner but I am looking for some good software that can be purchased and used to learn Hebrew modern standard Hebrew. Also I don’t really want to pay a huge amount for this software either so reasonably priced software and Rosetta Stone is not what I’m looking for at all. Thanks

I think you are making the right choice by not going the Rosetta way. Their software is nothing more than a fancy flashcard method so you won’t learn anything more than lots of vocabulary but you’ll be unable to actually carry a conversation. I usually recommend Pimsleur to beginner students. If you want a method that focuses on conversational skills (and reading skills), Pimsleur is the reference imo. It’s a real confidence builder, which is essential for new students. You will learn to train your ear to understand natives (an essential part of early learning often overlooked by other methods), develop very good pronunciation and acquire the core structures and grammar of your new language (exactly what RS fails to do.) It’s also almost half the price of RS (check Amazon.) Once you are finished with Pimsleur, daily conversation in the language is really ideal. Good luck.

If you’re looking for basic conversational Hebrew, I would recommend using the Berlitz phrase books that come with an audio CD.
Another good method is a book titled, “Hebrew in 10 Minutes a Day” by Bilingual Books, inc. That one gives you small stickers you can place on objects in your home to help you learn vocabulary as well as good beginner words and phrases. Don’t laugh…I learned more through books than software…reading in the bathroom…10 minutes a day! ROFL!

Definitely go for Byki to start! Byki is a flash card program designed to teach you vocabulary and phrases (www.byki.com), then get Learn Hebrew Now! (www.transparent.com) to dig deeper into the language.

You should try Peanut Butter. It’s a new software program that looks to be better than anything ever created. Live video and a lot of good resources all built in.
    Their website is http://www.peanutbuttersticks.com
    Good luck. Mazal tov
