the webcam is built into my laptop,and it will only take pics not record video.I need to make videos,and dont want to hassle with my digital camera because its easier to just use my laptop(if i could)

You can try liteCam, I’ve been using it for few months to record webcam chat and pretty happy with it. I’ve tried several programs, and it works the best for recording short (5-20 minutes) streaming videos as well.

Try to use Total Screen Recorder.
Suit for the beginners. It never lags my computer for me.
Also, it is compatible with Windows XP and Vista.
