What should i use to have the most functionality? What should i use for the most effects ( example: lightsaber effects )?
Should I use iMovie, Final Cut Express, or Adobe After Affects?

If you are new to video editing software imovie
if you know your way around computers
final cut pro or express is the way to go
I actually have both
but I never use after effects anymore
FCP is faster, easier, built for mac only so it integrates better with the rest of your system, and they both have the same effects
only thing, the light-saber effect, which is just moving a solid glowing mass is a bit easier an AE but that’s your only down side
oh wow these answers suck. imovie is your basic editing but when it comes to effects you really are getting the short short end of the stick.
final cut express is a smaller version of the real thing. while its easier to use for a new person it is still a short stick.
after affects is good, but i would also look into final cut pro if you can afford it because that will give you the most control to edit things how you want to and put in your own effects and stuff.
