I recently bought a software via the internet (I have no hard copy of it).
Once I’ve download it to a server can I transfer it to another server? i.e. a cheaper more reliabe server?

There you go.

you can’t upload a server with a software. And moreover software can’t be transfered. You have to directly install in the server. No transfers.
I had a guy at work tell me he transferred everything from one laptop to another with a fire wire. Hope that helps.
