I need to buy a tool which I can use in other OBD2, EOBD and CAN vehicles as well. Does VAG support other vehicles apart from the VA Group?

I am looking from the Computer Technician point of view to cover his or her but. If a customer bring in a computer got illegal software and give you all the keys and you are not the one doing the illegal stuff but you are the one is fixing it. My question is it alright to work on it and fix it. Or you cant fix it because it got illegal software on. Or what.
