Is It Illegal To Sell Academic Software That’s Been Unopened?

In 2007 I got the wrong software and the company wouldn’t take it back because I had already opened the box. I did not find out till after I opened the box of what it was. And it has been sitting wasting space on my shelf of software. It has never been installed on ANY pc. Anyway, was just wondering if it is illegal to pass this software on to someone else who can put some worth to it? If not, then that’s $998 out of my pocket I will NEVER get back.

Yes you can sell it, you own it and since you never installed it then you don’t have to worry about it. I dont think you will get your 998 back out of it but you might, but oh yea, you can sell it to whoever you want, nothing illegal about that at all.
What do you think all the software on ebay is from? And you can try to sell it there also.
As long as you haven’t used it, or registered it to your name in any way, then as far as i know it should be perfectly legal to sell it on.
The best thing to do would be to explain to the buyer why you are selling it and just see if they have any issues with the circumstances, and if they don’t, your in business!

sell it to other person. who is using the orginal xp os on their computer anyhow. ru using.
u can sell it to the other person bcoz u didnt opened it till yet.
it is not illegal.
Of course it is legal to sell it. Hopefully somebody will want to buy it, and you can recoup some of your expense.
