Can An Computer Technician Work On A Computer If It Got Illegal Software.?

I am looking from the Computer Technician point of view to cover his or her but. If a customer bring in a computer got illegal software and give you all the keys and you are not the one doing the illegal stuff but you are the one is fixing it. My question is it alright to work on it and fix it. Or you cant fix it because it got illegal software on. Or what.

  1. Rebecca says:

Depends on the ethics of the technician. One with any respect for copyright laws would not touch it.

  2. Wyoming Rider says:

It has no bearing on the computer technician. He would not be responsible for someone else’s actions.
Some computer technicians may have their own policy not to repair such computers, but they would not be liable in any fashion if they did.
And, in most cases, it would be impossible for the technician to tell if the computer was utilising pirated software or not. The technician would have to somehow contact the software company and enquire (or run something like the Windows genuine advantage programme) — and they just aren’t going to take the time to do that.

depends. are you a computer tech, or a copyright enforcement officer?

  4. Barry C says:

Of course a computer technician could work on it.
Since you didn’t say what the issue is, it is hard to give a more definitive answer.
I work on PCs and sometimes don’t even need to boot them up to do the job – like replace a power supply or an LED screen or repair a keyboard. How would I even know what is on a disk drive in such a case?
