I am doing a school assignment on hosting your own website. One of the questions asks what hardware and software is needed to host your website on your own server. I’m hoping someone here can help me answer it.
Thanks

If you have a DSL or cable connection you could be onliine in about 2 hours.
Equipment:
P-II 400mhz or greater
RAM 256mb
Win2000 Pro (my favorite)
I use IIS service that comes wth W2k and XP. Good fo basic hosting.
If you have a dynamic IP address you will need a service that will report any changes to the Tier 1 DNS services. I have been using httop://www.NO-IP.com for years. It is free.
