I am trying to fix my computer that is infected by several viruses. They are: Trojan Metajuan, Windows Anti Virus Pro and maybe Cryptor Virus.
Here is what I have tried:
I have run both Norton Antivirus and Norton 360 both of which found Trojan Metajuan however neither could remove it. I also downloaded the Free AVG 8.5 which found the Cryptor Virus. I have read of several different antimalware software to try and run (malwarebites,SpyHunter, Spybot Search and destroy and SUPER Anti Spyware free version) I have installed each of them but I cannot open them. I have tried opening them with only one on the computer at a time even without Norton or AVG I also tried opening them in safe mode. I downloaded each of these programs from an uninfected computer and transfered them over with a USB and I tried downloading them directly to the computer. As a last resort I tried to manually remove the virus but when I try and locate the files it says to delete they are not there.
I don’t know what else to try. Please Help! Thanks

yeah – today’s probably your lucky day – sounds like ya got a real sticky one on your hands

but not to worry, i deal with this almost every day
follow these instructions to clear it off – but you’re gonna have to do *extra* work to get this one cuz its a real toughy obviously
first, make life easy on yourself – print this page out, you’ll be turning your computer on and off
(also… i provide some links with directinos – you should print those out too)
in malwarebytes (MBAM), be sure to update it (third tab from left – make *sure* the date is “today’s” date when its done – keep updating it until you get “todays” date!)
now, since you got a *really* sticky situation, and this virus is blocking your attempts to delete it, do this…
turn off something called “system restore” – the bad guys will use that to RE-INFECT your computer, even if you were able to successfully remove the virus!!
(if you are using Vista, you’ll have to turn off UAC first)
see the links below to get to “system restore”
(depends if you’re using XP or Vista)
next, you’ll need to reboot your computer in to “safe mode with networking” mode
- http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsaf…
- reboot your comptuer
- once you see that it has fully shut down, and then started coming back up again, start tapping the F8 key
- you’ll see what’s called the “boot options menu” – a black screen with a lot of white text
- cursor to “safe mode with networking” and hit enter (and enter again at the next screen)
again, attempt to download MBAM (see links below)
install, update, and run a “quick scan”
now… if its really really REALLY bad – and after all this you STILL have that darn virus…
you may need to literally take the HD out of your computer, put it into another computer (”slaving” your HD to another computer), run MBAM against your infected HD (you would have to select “full scan” this time, MBAM will then permit you to select your HD from a list – note: the “full scan” will take longer, but you have no choice at this point)
this method will will WILL work, but… requires some technical expertise
viruses this bad give even seasoned techs a run for their money and “sometimes” its actaully easier to save all your data and just repartition/reformat your HD and reinstall your operating system (you have your original CDs right? RIGHT??)
; )
if you end up having to call in a computer guy, do a search on “computer repair” (put your city in the search terms too) and pick someone with good credentials
if you take your computer in, you may pay somewhere in the $250-$350 range to get this job done
if someone comes to your place, you could pay around $200-$300
best buy/geek squad will charge you $200/hr – and take 4-6 days to get to you
also.. you could look on http://maps.google.com or http://local.yahoo.com – pick a company that has reviews from previous customers
call a few, get a feel for the company, pick one you feel comfortable with
let us know how it works out
Try renaming their .exe files and running that in Safe Mode. For instance, change mbam.exe to randy.exe or something. Make sure you keep the .exe part.
Good luck.
