a friend of mine gave me his old computer, I am not computer savvy, well when it comes to hooking it up and understanding how to download software, etc. My roommate has a wireless connection in the house…do I find out who it is with/or made by and go from there?

Would like some ideas please for dvd burning software. I have powertogo installed on my new laptop. I have burnt a disc but it jumps all over the place. I have been told that this is down to the burning speed.
Powertogo does not seem to have the option of reducing the burning speed. Any ideas???

I borrowed a Canon Digital Rebel XT camera from school & would like to put the pictures onto my computer. I have a USB cord that connects my computer to the camera, but when I do, it says I need to insert the software CD that came with the camera — which I don’t have.
I don’t have a card reader either.
What can I do?

When I was forced to buy this system 4 years ago, it came with Avast…It’s worked great accept for about 6 months ago when I got such a bad bug that I had to have it worked on and actually lost some software….
Please give me you personal opinions on free antivirus and why…I’m on high speed here…And don’t tell me Norton or McAfee…I’ve used them both in the past and they both failed on numerous occasions…

my aunt had her PC seen to by a rather shoddy company, who wiped her pc lost stuff and apparently corrupted her files.
He school work was all in microsoft word and some open no problem, but others are opening and look like this….

When they complained about his work on the PC he simply told them to take the stuff and leave. He had told my aunt to stop getting on at him as he was depressed. The PC lost all its original software, media ssuites, itunes, everything. It only had basics, and this guy was the most ridiculously bad service i think i can imagine.
please if you can tell me how to rescue the documents or confirm that they have been corrupted and are now unsavable.
