Picasa Photo Software: Is There A Way To Keep It From Automatically Importing?

I’d really like to use this software, but since it wants to create a library on its own, I’d rather use ACDSee, which doesn’t start creating backups and a library on its own. I just want to use Picasa2 to browse my directories, and have the choice to manipulate one every once in a while. I don’t want a huge library kept by Picasa. Is there any way to do this with Picasa that I have overlooked, or is it Picasa’s way or the highway?
