How Can I Convert A Quicktime Movie With Free Software?

I’ve found some converters that are “free,” but when I download them they are only trials and I can only convert half the video or it has a watermark or something. I am trying to convert it so that I can use it in Windows Movie Maker. Is there any conversion software I can use that really is free (no trials)?

Ok. If you are even remotely serious about video editing, you will go to the Control Panel, and uninstall Windows Movie Maker. It is a piece of junk program. Seriously. Spend a little money, get Quicktime Pro or Adobe Premeire or even Sony Vegas. You are limiting yourself by using Movie Maker.
But if you must use Movie Maker and its low quality codecs and production output…. try converting your files in VLC player. It does a decent job converting MOV to AVI. Don’t waste your time converting to the WMM format, since it will compress your video and make it look bad.
