Antivirus Issues… Advice Wanted…?

Which would be the best Antivirus & Firewall soft ware for my Laptop ( Celeron 1.4 GHz 256 DDR 40 GB HDD)
some softwares on my mind are:
Bitdefender Pro 9 ( with firewall)
PC – cillin internet security 2006 (with firewall)
AVG free edition + Outpost pro firewall ver 3.0 or higher
AVG free edition + Zone alarm
I am looking at security (i do a lotta net all kinda sites!!!) plus minimal impact of system performance and speed…
P.S: Also is there a problem if i use keygens to make the softwares work?

Bit Defender is high rated, Pc-Cillin has gone down in quality from what I’ve seen lately. With limited memory, your best bet might be the AVG/Zone Alarm combo…both are fairly light on memory usage…remember to keep everything updated no matter what you use…and to answer the other question, if you can find reliable, repeat RELIABLE sources for keygens and cracks (a large percentage, if not the majority, may be malware in and of themselves), they do often work…without details, I’ll admit to having used a few myself, and they do work…good luck tracking them down, though
I just got a new computer and am evaluating McAfee, so far I like it. It is well rated.
Look to sites like PCWorld.com and TechRepublic.com to evaluate sofware and rate it for you.
Beware of running multiple firewalls that serve the same purpose.
Run one antihack utility, one antivirus, and if you must one antispyware. I personally prefer to use free ones until I see a problem, then I will go to a tech mag for evaluations of the best one to remove my particular issue.
All the major security sites are on the verge of launching intergrated security sysytems that do all three tasks. They exist now in beta form.
It won’t be long.
In the meantime, take advantage of every free anti/virus antihack utility available to you for free.
AVG is well rated, but I have not run this yet, plan to test this soon.
Panda is excellent.
And as I said so far McAfee is well rated and so far, with minimal bugs, performing well.
Minor glitch in password, and an occasional ghost page that does not appear in task bar, cannot be evaluated or closed.
Software glitch, probably related to password.
Seems like great sofware so far.
My pearls of web wisdom mostly have to do with the mindset, that if you havent yet paid for this software you are most likely getting less than the full program.
You can try lots of free utilities online, depending on how you arrive at them is sort of critical. If for instance you get a pop up that says your system is infected or vulnerable, close that puppy and go scan your system at a reputable AV/AntiHack site, like Panda, Zone, or Symantec.
Software wise, there is no such thing as a free lunch.
Read tech publications daily.
Syber Security is the new wave.
Hang ten.

But remember the best defense is to practice safe computing.
I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)

These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.
The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan’s, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

If you’re running XP, use the built in firewall, it is superior to any third party firewall.
AVG free is just about the best anti-virus you can get, paid or not.
I’m going to be honest here – 1.4Ghz Celeron and 256MB of RAM isn’t a great deal and it’s probably best you don’t overload your system. Because of this, I’d personally recommend AVG Free Edition and Zone Alarm.
