Trouble Removing Norton Antivirus And Installing Mcafee…?

I got my computer in late 2003 and installed NAV 2004 (actually the geeksquad did). Now since my internet provider provides free McaFee software I went to install it but could not since i still had norton, or so it claimed. I had long ago uninstalled 2004 and still have the disk but on the add/remove programs list it says 2003 and also norton wmi update. The 2003 only has a change option and i cannot remove the update. I get an error saying the network source isn’t available and stuff about an alternate path. I really want to get this off and get McaFee on and the only thing I know is that there is three norton folders in the “my computer” section and also a symantec folder. I have Windows XP SP1 by the way. Any help is greatly appreciated and if more information is need just ask. Thanks.

Laptop Problem, Please Help?

Ok, I was using my laptop yesterday and all of a sudden it was going slow. I thought it was my internet. So, i took out the cable and it started working again, but then it was slow again. So, i tried to restart my computer but i couldn’t, so i turned it off with the button method. I turned it on again and it went to the Vista loading screen. Then it restarted automatically. Then the screen said “Windows cannot open. This may be caused by adding new software or hardware. If this is the case, start “Automatic Repairs” to fix disk errors. So I did that and it started going slow. Then i have tried that, but it failed. I also tried to get “system recovery” and everything else. Is this because of the hard disk or something else? Also, I cannot start in safe mode or anything like that, so please do not tell me that is the case, b/c it isn’t. Also, I did install a webcam and a headset into my computer and they worked fine. So, I do not know if that is the case, but if it is, please tell me.

Windows Xp Freezes During Bootup Virus Scan?

Whenever I bootup my computer (a Compaq Presario with Windows XP) I’m told to run a scan of the D: drive. But when I run the scan it gets stuck at 39% every time. If I skip the scan the computer runs fine, but I was just curious if anyone knew what the problem could be. Also if I access the D: drive from My Computer is RECOVERY the only file that is supposed to be there? I remember a long time back that someone attacked my computer and flipped the screen upside down. But I fixed it with Display Properties. I thought the registry might have been damaged from back then. I have plenty of anti-virus software and anti-spyware programs now, but I’m still curious about it.

Upgrade Cd To Windows 7, I Have A Few Questions?

1. Will there be any risk upgrading from windows vista? I heard there was a risk with windows xp to windows vista before?
2. Does a upgrade CD have limitations? I mean like can it be used for a reinstall like with a regular cd bought from the store? Or will it only work if vista or xp is installed?
3. Some computers have a recovery partitions that are made by the manufacturer? Will it also upgrade that as well since the cd is coming with from the manufacturer of the computer?
4. Will the cd contain all the software bundle that came with my computer? Will it be designed for my pc so whatever the manufacturer put in there with vista stays with 7?
Thanks for answering in advance!
