I have a Dell and when I had that problem and wasn’t able to do anything I called Dell and they were able to walk me through so I could get to Dell remote and they went through my computer and took care of the problem. No charge!
Try downloading malwarebytes on another computer onto a jump drive and running it from there. Also, rename the file from mbam to something else before you load it.
go to another pc and download malwarebytes, burn it to a disc or flash, rename it xxx.exe. and run it on yours
I think there’s a safe mode flavour which logs things as they start. Try re-starting in that mode and see what is running.
Look in the registry for obvious places where the virus would start from … HKLM/Windows/ Current Version … in Run and RunOnce. Wipe anything in there, and re-start.
Also, see if you can borrow a CD with an Anti-virus on it, and boot from that, and run against your HD. It’s always good to have a bootable anti-virus CD lying around in case this happens.
And avoid Vista … but I guess you figured that by now.
