Try obtaining a Windows XP CD or Vista CD from a friend and use the serial that is on a sticker on your computer case. When you boot off of the cd/dvd, reformat the harddrive and install a fresh copy of windows on it. That should relieve you of the errors.

1 check jumper setting, check cables.
    2. check your BIOS, if you have correct jumper setting BIOS should detect your HD automatically.
    download from freepctech.com
boot disk. and format it, the just install XP, make sure you have legal copy otherwise Windows won’t work correctly.

    hello you ok ?
iam going to help you right now because your in quite a big difficult situation.
1 when you put the new hard drive in the sony laptop did you fasten it to the caddie that it sits before going back inside it ?
2 you have to go into your bios settings after installing the hard drive so that the laptop knows what device to boot from.
3 i suggest you go to the sony website and findout how to access the bios settings for that laptop.
    [ write them down ! ]
4 if your not that sure dont try and do all this yourself talk to your local computer shop, because you could easily make quite a lot of mess.
5 installing windows can be quite a difficult task if you have never actually done this before !
6 on some hard drives you dont have to move the jumper settings on the back because most are allready setup for you !
if you did not live too far from me i would happily help you out this difficult situation your in right now !.
i have a technical help phone number that i will give you if you ever need help or advice just message me please.
    happy computing everyone

Without knowing the reasons for just removing the original hard drive I would suggest the following. Replace the original hard drive back and replace the new one as the secondary (slave) drive. If you don’t want migrate your setting or files use your system disk to restore the original hard drive to the default settings. After doing this use the software that came with the new hard drive to migrate your OS and get your system up and going. Remove old hard drive and switch jumper or remove in some cases to make the new drive the master drive. You don’t have to restore the original drive if you want to save time installing new programs.
