Why Does My Mcafee Software Think I Do Not Have An Internet Connection?

I am running XP. I’m running McAfee Internet Security Suite. I have an active account. It’s been running just fine for the past eight months. I definitely have an internet connection. But today I went to update virus signatures manually, and it tells me that there’s no internet connection. Yet I do. Interesting?
Yes, I have double checked my subscription.
Yes, I did re-install software properly.
