Also how good is the COMODO firewall?
I just purchased a laptop with the Vista OS and I use to use Zone Alarm but am having a problem with Zone Alarm initializing so I am thinking of using COMODO
Does COMODO inform the user of new inbound and outbound attempts from software or other computers?
I have been reading their website but would like some of your personal experiences with the COMODO firewall..

Great idea, because that’s what I’ve done ;-)
The Comodo firewall is arguably the best free firewall and certainly one of the best at any price.
Instead of just installing the firewall though, I would suggest that you go for the Comodo Internet Security suite, and as per your question, opt out of the antivirus on installation.
I run the free version of Avast in place of the Comodo Antivirus and am very pleased with the team.
Yes, the Comodo Firewall does indeed inform you of inbound and outbound attempts, and admittedly has a pretty bothersome learning curve for users who are impatient.
Here is a link for an excellent .pdf user guide which will tell you how to configure it:

When you install Comodo, it shows an option as to which of the 2 parts to install. Just check off the anti virus, and it will install just the firewall.

  3. Fida says:

Comodo is a good firewall. It provides more security than any other firewalls. You can use it.Try disabling the antivirus during installation.

I don’t use COMODO so I cannot advise you. The initializing problem you experienced means you had errors during installation- try reinstalling.
But ZoneAlarm Free Firewall works smoothly with windows vista and generally has no conflicts.
