Upgrade For Laptop And Now It Acts Like It Has A Virus?

We did the windows upgrade on our HPdv2000 the other day, since then it has started acting funny. You have to restart it from sleep mode and other strange things. We attempted to restore it to an earlier date last night and now it is acting like it has a virus. It will not permit the anti virus software to run, there is no add/remove program function, in an attempt to restore it again, the system restore is not working. Basically anything on the control panel is not really functioning. Does anyone have any ideas for system recovery. We thought we had the recovery disk, but we do not. The OS is Vista, btw. Thanks for any help you can provide.

The link below provides a method of getting your HP recovery CD set for your laptop. I used the DV2000cto model you should use your exact model from the bottom of the laptop.
Have you tried running the Repair option after booting from the Vista upgrade CD? There is an option to go back to an earlier restore point. I would try this. If that doesn’t work you could try running the free scanner at http://safety.live.com or the Symantec free scanner at:http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/defau…
This should get you going normally again.
Then you want to get your antivirus protection functioning and install Spybot S&D 1.6 version to get rid of spyware/adware. It is free at http://www.downloads.com.

Try booting into safe mode. Sometimes updates can change configurations, so the first place you should have looked to solve your problem was in control panel and change the sleep mode options. Restore points don’t always work, sometimes they muck everything up, that’s MS for ya! See if you can’t get a copy of the version of vista you have (borrow, or download torrent) (see my torrents video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/MEGASPARKs ) this way you can pop in the disk and use it to repair windows.

  3. Download a free operating system, and get a CD disk ( i recommend Ubuntu, or Debian) now wipe out your harddrive in the disk (choose delete all data and use whole computer) now use whatever OS you choose until you can download a torrent of Vista and use your serial number ( or if you have the disks use those) or buy them.
