My Compaq Presario S3100nx Has Got A Real Wierd Problem..here R The Details. This Computer Came Loaded With Xp

home edition, recovery disk came with the computer. I tried to restore the software, drivers and other settings to the default factory setting. Now im unable to restore the computer, When i try to run the restore disc the computer screen blanks out and just stays that way and all hard drive activities stop, I tried reloading multiple times with same problems, compaq is unable to help,, they sent me a new set of recovery disks still same problem, then they sent me a new hard drive, still same problem. But im able to load Windows ME without any problem and use it, but i want my XP back,, Also i used another computer to load a drive with XP,,then take that drive and install it in my presario,,now the computer just contiues to reset and reboot, even before going into windows. HELP anyone please, what could be the problem. Compaq gave up,,but i dont want to give up. Can it be some settings in the BIOS

  1. I’d suggest checking your memory modules. XP requires a bit more memory to run that WinME, so it may be failing when it hits that bad memory component.
Remove and reseat each module, it may be a lose component, but you may need to replace them with new..

  2. LOW says:

If you force, install an older Windows, after a new Windows has been install, you lose!
If you want both Operating systems, you must install the older first! Worse, you do not have a full copy of Windows XP. You have what is called a recovery disk. It will not install on a clean formatted disk!
That is the way they cheapen the price. The Original CD with registration numbers costs. By giving you a recover only, they save money, YOU LOSE!
Buy a copy of XP pro and a hard drive, it costs about $100.00 for XP, 80 for the drive.
You will need it as long as you run XP!
    DUAL BOOT!
    Disconnect computer from internet.
Install new hard drive. Put in WIN XP CD. If you did not buy a new hard drive, then delete all partitions.
Create three partitions, 2 partitions at 20GB each,
The third is what ever is left.
Format the second partition in NTFS. When the format finishes, PULL THE PLUG ON THE COMPUTER!
Take out the XP CD and put in the other operating system. Boot the computer. Install into the other 20GB partition. Complete Installation. Install motherboard utilities and drivers. Install fire wall and anti virus.
Shut down system. Load WIN XP disk
Boot and select new Install. READ THE SCREEN. Install in a 20GB partition that is free.
DO NOT INSTALL IN THE SAME PARTITION
    WITH THE OTHER OPERATING SYSTEM!
Complete installation; install motherboard drivers and utilities from motherboard CD. Install all software and drivers. (XP ONLY)! Install anti virus and Firewall. Shut down system; connect to Internet/SDL Cable.
Boot and go to http://www.microsoft.com UPDATE, and let this site update your system.
Work/save your data on a different hard drive.
If you have only one hard drive, then save your data in the third partition. If you save your data on the operating system partition YOU WILL LOSE IT!
