Will The Free Version Of Avast Get Rid Of Antivirus 2009?

a pop up window from antivirus 2009 came up on my computer, i tried to get rid of it but it started “scanning” i realised that it was a scam but i’m really worried that it has put a virus onto my new laptop (i have been saving up for one for ages). as you probably understand i don’t want my laptop to go wrong, but i dont have a credit card or anything to pay for anti-virus software (i’m only 16) does the free version of avast get rid of the antivirus 2009 scam, and if not how do i get rid of it? i’m really not great at computer stuff so an idiot’s guide would be really helpful.
