with so many software companies making offers of free scans,2 for 1 deals etc.etc. how can you check on the company,s honesty or validation.Everytime you run a free scan of some sort it most always comes up claiming you have a ton of infections or spyware infecting your p/c. yet your own scans don,t so what do you do.

I am an average person with slightly above average computer knowledge.
I had a computer virus about 3 months ago and it took me over a week but I finally got the virus removed. I have kept avast and AVG virus software on my system and spybot, adaware and hijack this to prevent future attacks.
Just this week, I’ve got a new virus or malware of some sort. This new virus will not allow me to run any of my anti-virus or malware software. Also, the virus hijack’s my browser so I cannot get to any free online virus scanner. I can use yahoo and news websites but the hijacker prevents me from accessing any websites that would help me remove the virus. The virus even prevents my “system restore” program from working.
I am out of ideas. I’ve tried loading programs in safe mode and I am not having any luck. Can someone please provide some advice?

I have a sony vaio laptop given to me when my dad got a new computer. The original OS was Home edition, but he had his friend clean install Windows at some point and Professional was loaded on. The computer is setup very nice….virus control, microsoft office, etc. However, I am receiving a message that says the Windows is not genuine. I have two options: I have ordered the recovery discs from sony to clean install home edition (which i have a product key for.) Or I can pay $150 to license the current Professional version. It seems the professional version is better suited for me because i will be connecting wireless internet in many different places (i am going to college). Also, the vaio recovery discs have vaio specific software (hotkeys, memory stick apps, etc.) In other words i am using a vaio that doesn’t know it is a vaio, if that makes any sense. I want to install the vaio software on, so this is a factor as well (will professional allow this is my ?) Sorry its so long thanks!
