Can I Install Windows Xp On D Drive If It’s Already Installed On C Drive?

I just recently upgraded to XP from Windows ME and my C drive is 97% full – basically the computer is so slow it’s unusable. It’s an older Sony Vaio with a partitioned drive. I am concerned about losing the software that came with the computer if I uninstall XP from the C drive and then reinstall on the D drive. I can’t do Partition Magic merge – lack of cash to spend anymore right now. Eventually I will combine the two partitions. In the meantime, what is the best course of action – install on D drive and then uninstall on C drive? And how do you uninstall an operating system? I still have the recovery CDs for original software that came with the computer etc. but they are all from the Windows ME system, so I doubt those would be helpful. Please enlighten this non-techie with a brilliant answer to this dilemma!! Thank you.

dont install the os on d: as it will cause errors when you try to install apps, the will become d:program files instead of c:program file. the best option i would recommed would be to add a new hard drive, you can then use the original as is and use the new hard drive as storage or vise versa
