Is There (free) Downloadable Software That Will Allow Me To Dub Audio Over Video, And/or Mix Images/audio?

I need to mix audio files so that they “dissolve” into one another over a videotape already having audio. I also need to mix one series of video images with another, so that they also have a “dissolving effect. Is there any downloadable software for this, if not what is the BEST I can buy?

   Try Movie Maker on Windows(Vista comes with it, but if you have XP here is the download: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downl…
   Try iMovie on Macintosh (Mac should come with it)
   Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere are the best but cost $$$$
   On these editors you should be able to import the video and edit the audio track separately.
