Is There Any Way I Can Recover All The Photos That Have Ever Been Stored On My Sony Memory Stick?

I’ve tried numorous types of file recovery software, but I never get all the photos back. There are recent (1-2 months) files I know should be on there. But they dont show up. Files that are older than the ones I’m looking for show up, but not the ones I want. Why is that?
Any help would be appreciated.

How can you “know” that files that are 1-2 months old should be there? You haven’t written onto that memory card since these were deleted?
Unfortunately, when you write something to the card, it usually overwrites not the least recent photos, but it starts writing to the beginning of a card. So what happens, if say, 5 months ago you filled the card to capacity downloaded and erased, then 2 months later you filled it about 1/2 way, downloaded those and erased, and then last week you filled it 3/4 of the way and erased… What would happen all photos from last week would be recoverable, plus last 1/4 of photos from 5 months back, but not the ones from 2 months back, because they were completely overwritten last week.
I hope this explanation makes sense…
Now it’s even worse than that. If you did not “format” or deleted all files – but deleted selectively, new files could have been written onto seemingly random spots in a card, deleting random previous images for good!
So unless it’s the last ever batch of photos that was on this card – there’s never a guarantee you’d be able to recover it. And even then if you formatted the card – it may have written some technical data over some of the most recent photos, if you were very unlucky and/or formatted in different device than last time (e.g. previous formatting in pc, last one in camera or vice versa)

Go to http://www.filehippo.com and download Recuva. It’s free, run it and it will tell you which files are recoverable, and which have been over-written, and by what. You may get some back.
