I have a Sony Handycam and I don’t have the proper software apparently and I need to be able to upload video files from the mini dvd in the camera but I have no idea what I can do in order to get this to work? Any suggestions other than call sony or some bs answer like that?

Download and install HandBrake.http://handbrake.fr/
Finalize the disc (if required – read the manual).
Take the disc out of your camera and put it in the DRAWER loading DVD drive in your computer. Never put a small or odd-sized disc in a slot loader – you will break the optical drive and scratch the disc. Get an external drawer loader if needed.
Launch Handbrake.
Rip the video and save the new file to a video file type your video editor can deal with. MovieMaker likes AVI and WMV (among others); iMovie likes MP4 and mov (among others).
When the ripping is complete, Quit HandBrake.
Launch the video editor.
Drag the converted/ripped file to the clips/collections or timeline pane.
