Having Trouble With Xd Mermory Card In My Digital Camera, Please Help!?

Hello.
We went out the other day and took some really nice pictures at the coast and then when we came back to load them on to my computer it said that the card needed to be formatted, on both the camera and laptop.
I know this will wipe all the pictures off the card (correct?) so what can i do. i have got recovery software from when i accidently deleted all my family pictures off my external hard drive and that worked fine then, would it work the same on the memory card once it has been formatted?
if not who should i speak to for help as i really dont want to lose the pictures!
thankyou for any help in advance,
Tommy

If you format the card with any amount of photos on it, you will lose them, and even if you do have recovery software, it’s not worth the hassle. Take your card to a photo processing outlet and place your card into one ofe slots in the ‘DIY’ machines. You should be able to select load to CD only, (my local supermarket’s machines have this facility).
When you finish loading up to CD, you will then have the spare copy, no matter what happens to the pics on your card.
As I have said to other people, you DO NOT have to format the card at ANY TIME. It is merely an option.
If you are you inserting the card directly into a card reader built into your computer, then I would suggest you download via a USB lead.
