I’ve been using Norton 360 for a little under a year and i’m not too impressed with it, it only seems to detect trackjing cookies and the real threats it misses! I was infected with the Vundo virus and had to completely restore my system (i’m not an advanced user) once i had restored my computer Norton internet security 2007 was already installed on my system and had a 60 day free trial, i’m currently taking advantage of ths trial and i’m much more confident in using this programme than i was using Norton 360.
I have 3 questions;
1, What is the difference between Internet security and antivirus software?
2, What is the best Internet security/ Antivirus software on the market to date?
3, Are any free antivirus/internet security software that you can download free on the wb (ie. AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition (from http://www.download.com/))… actually any good and do their job?
A long winded question i know, but i don’t want another infection!
Thanks in advance
Stu

1. Internet security packages normally include a firewall as well as anti-virus software.
2. The very best protection is Kaspersky internet security (£30)
3. The strongest free protection for your computer is:
Comodo Pro (firewall) and AVG 8.0 Free Edition (anti-virus).
More user friendly option:
ZoneAlarm (firewall) requires less setting up then Comodo pro
All available from download.com
Would also recommend that you use a safer browser like Firefox, and download additional anti-spyware software my favourite is Ad-aware 2008.
I recently removed my McAfee firewall and installed Comodo Pro, its the best firewall I’ve ever used and comes top in leaktests (see below) if you are getting too many warnings turn the defence + setting to clean computer.http://www.matousec.com/projects/firewal…
(Don’t use AntiVir, a lot of people recommended Avira AntiVir to me so I removed AVG 8.0 Free Edition and installed AntiVir but it would not update, the forums are full of people having the same problem)
1) Now a days Internet security is like a combo pack .. u get anitivirus, firewall, spyware protection all. It all depends on vendors wht they are providing.
2) Well unfortunately there is no Single BEST antivirus in d market. U cant have a single medicine for all problems.
3)Its not like tht If u have Paid Antivirus and anti spyware den u wont get infected.
Free antivirus works fine .. few of them are:
Grisoft AVG, Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic, Avast Home Edition.
Antivirus alone is not enough To protect completely.
Download Spybot search n destroy, Ad-aware both are free & work fine and a good firewall.
the best anti virus thing on internet is AVG you can download it for freee and it tells you threats with your pc and you have i choice to heal them or get rid of them all together (its wat i use)
well first of all norton is CRAP since you have windows vista which is another problem with viruses you need windows one live care or mcafee or i would suggest to downgrade to windows XP
Internet security / Antivirus
try manual removal instructionshttp://fix-computer-problem.com/trojans/…
This is what I did:-
First uninstall all antivirus antispyware programs.
Then installhttp://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht…
After installation it will restart and perform a scan.
All infected files = move to chest
Next installhttp://www.superantispyware.com/
Once installed right click on the icon and click ’scan for spyware, adware malware’
Do the full scan. It will show you a list of infections found. Just follow the instructions to quarantine the infected files.
I had to perform this scan about 4 times before it said ‘no infections detected’
(You will need to reboot after each scan. The full scan takes some time so be patient!)
Next if you don’t have a firewall then downloadhttp://www.pctools.com/firewall/
To protect your computer from getting infected with malware in the first place download the following 2 programs:-
SpywareBlaster helps to immunize your computer against certain selected malware-http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareb…
SiteAdvisor warns you when visiting a potentionally malicious websitehttp://www.siteadvisor.com/
This has worked wonders for me and when put together forms a complete FREE internet security suite.
Good luck!
