E-mails Vansihed, Using Apple Mail.app?

Hi There,
Hope somebody can assist.
I am using Yahoo mail in Mail on Apple’s OSX Leopard.
I have had 3000+ emails in my inbox. After getting support from our local ISP for the SMTP server settings, I have notice that all my email messages disappeared. When I pressed “Get mail”, only the new mail was received.
I have checked through my /users/izak/library/mail and that yahoo folder contained only the newest mail.
1. Is there any way to retrieve the email?
2. Does Yahoo not have a repository or backup of users email?
3. Can I use data recovery software to recover the email?
4. Anything else?
