How Can I Tranfer Data/software Directly From A Computer With Windows 98 To Another Computer With Windows Xp?

I need to transfer data/software from my old computer with Windows 98 to another computer with Windows XP. I have tried to do it by transferring onto a CD, but for whatever reason it is not working. My only other option at this point that I can see is to use floppy disks. Is there a way to accomplish a transfer directly from one computer to another using cables of some kind?

With networking configured on both systems, you should be able to share your hard drive on the network.
Right click on any folder (or hard drive) and click on “Sharing…” You’ll be able to configure it there.
If sharing option doesn’t come up, you might have to go into the network configuration and install that option.
The easiest way to do it is to make your hard drive from your old computer a slave drive and install it in the new computer. You’ll be able to see and retrieve files off the old drive by clicking and dragging.
you could use a USB flash drive or you can get a ethernet corssover cable is they both have NICs and make sure they are in the same workgroup and file & print sharing is enabled
You can transfer the data over the network. Maek sure the two pc’s are in the same workgroup, then share out a folder on the xp PC. on the windows 98 PC, browse the network until you see the XP pb. drill down to the shared folder then drag and drop.
There is commercial software available for transferring applications., Aloha Bob is one that comes to mind
File and settings transfer wizard on the XP machine and follow the instructions.
