Avg Free Messed Up?

Ok whenever I turn on my computer, where the icons at the lower right are a balloon(you know what I’m talking about right?) pops up and says corrupted file. I run a scan and it shows no viruses. My computer cannot play music or videos for long. It freezes up and I have to turn it off. What would be the best thing to do? Any better free antivirus software out there?
