I’ve been a PC user my entire life, but I’m seriously considering getting a 15″ or a 17″ Apple MacBook Pro laptop.
I do graphic & web design, as well as iTunes music downloads, and a bit of light gaming such as card games, The Sims, & Sims expansions. I’ll also need to access Word, Power Point, & Publisher.
I’m a bit near-sighted, so I’m unsure which screen size to get.
Does the Apple MacBook Pro laptop have a built in wireless thing, or will I have to buy one separately?
Should I buy OS X(leopard?) or should I stick with Tiger?
Does it come with any kind of system restore/recovery software?
If anyone knows where I can get one new for less than the apple.com price, I am definitely interested in that.

I have a Mac Book Pro 15′ and I loveeeeee it! Its like my best friend. It goes every where I go. I got the 15 instead of the 17 because the 17 is huge so if you plan to carry your laptop everywhere around with you I suggest to get the smaller one…..and especially if you’re a girl….girls look cuter with smailler thinner laptops.
They have the best programs for designing web pages. I havent actually did one yet but thats because Im still doing and finding new things on here that take my breath away!! I love the Sims too but I had bought it for my regular PC and I dont have the one that can run on a Mac yet so I havent played it on my laptop but I want to get it soon.
The MacBook Pro DOES have built in wireless…..its nice to pick up other signals when your in other places. Its really nice though.
I really like the OS X leopard….I checked it out on their website a few days ago…I actually want it. I think you would like it…especially if you like designing stuff and all the arts and stuff.
Get one! You will love it, trust me.
I think it will be a good choice for you to switch to Mac. EA just announced in the WWDC2007 that they will develop games for Mac and I *think* The Sims is one of them.
Macbook has built-in 802.11n wireless so you can connect to a hotspot or your router with pretty decent speed.
There is a Mac version of Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PP,…etc.)
Tiger is pretty good and leopard is worth waiting for considering it is only 3 months away. I am also waiting for leopard to come out before I get a Macbook
OS X has automatic updates just like Windows so I don’t think you need to worry about restore/recovery software. If you really screw up, you can bring it to the Apple store to get help from an Apple genius.
I would look at Amazon as they have a slightly lower price and sometimes a rebate. Depending on where you live, you don’t have to pay the tax and shipping. Can’t go wrong with that.
The only hitch, is Publisher. It is not available in a Mac version. To use Publisher on a Mac, you’ll have to use Bootcamp to also install Windows on your Mac.
Get rid of Publisher if you can. It is not used by the Design and Print industry unless some customer walks in the door with a .pub file. We have a Mac Mini running with windows via Parallels just so we can read .pub files. A completely useless application, designed for offices with networked copiers.
Graduate to InDesign.
As of October, OS 10.5 will come with a built-in recovery application called Time Machine. TechTool Pro is a pretty good recovery/restore utility.
Apple prices are same everywhere, plus or minus $5.00.
