Files Missing In Explorer Window; Still On Hard Drive Though – Please Help!?

The files aren’t “hidden”; I can type the exact location in the Address Bar and they pop up, but I can’t get to them any other way. Data Recovery software sees the files, and labels them as “File” (versus “deleted”). iTunes can still find them – it’s only in Windows Explorer that they simply don’t appear. Someone suggested it has to do with my hard drive’s “index” or “index file”. Any ideas? I appreciate your help…

    On explorer
    tools > folder options > view tab > check “show hidden files and folders”
    and also uncheck “hide protected operating system files”
